Wind and Fire

Ramblings in the Wind of Fire and Rain blown in.

I'm a college graduate, a web developer, and soon to be a student again. I picked up the blog-reading virus in the last year and a half and it replicated itself rapidly. I will never again have an unread items count of 0. This virus is also partially to blame for my realization that Human Sexuality is a viable career option. So please excuse me while I worship the internets.

Game Night

was a blast. Showed up a bit late (20min) as every good hostess should, eyes dilated, goggles on. Don't remember any more how things started, but the games began and they didn't stop until after midnight. (Excepting breaks for kabobs and floats.) And now, worn out from flying, dancing, killing, dieing, matching and building I think I will retire so that in the morning I can be waking.

So Serious Now

I was excited to wake up to rain pouring down this morning. For about 30 seconds it roared down onto the skylights of the house. I was actually disappointed when I looked up from my desk at work to see sunlight on the building across the alley. I soon forgot about the weather however as I returned to an impossible code architecture. I'm determined now to rewrite it. I did finally "fix" a few of the things on my list, but more elegant solutions will have to wait for the restructuring. It's going to blow. Hard. But I can't wait to do it.

Had a pretty good conversation with a friend about Valentine's Day, but I think I'll refrain from repeating it here. My metabolism is dead today or something and I'm freezing. Even my notebook (not a laptop) feels cool to me. I'm trying to get a couple things done while I wait to crawl under the blankets. I also hope to tire myself out a bit.

I've been trying to find a hiragana flashcard program that will run on my ipod, but haven't had much luck yet. Closest I've come so far is a download of katakana and romanji images that I can scroll through. Guess as simple as it is that's pretty close to what I asked for. Well, always on the lookout for good language programs on the ipod so if anybody knows of any... *listens to the echo...*

Best part of the day: Walked downstairs after work to see a group of people huddled just inside the building's lobby door. The street and sidewalk were shimmering with the rapidly falling rain.
Big Bonus: Upon walking out the door I discovered a thin covering of small ice balls on the ground, little pellets of white, looking much like the salt they scatter in the Midwest after a snow.

Small wonders

I didn't get to sleep in yesterday, but I did get to drive around for a while, which went a long way towards waking me up. Breaking up the monotony that is the Monday thru Friday 9 - 6 has an amazing affect. Something as simple as running errands becomes blissful and uplifting.

My savior on this particular morning was a visit to the allergist. The doctor told me the shots I wanted could make me very sick and would last about 5yrs. He then sent me to the nurse who "scratched" me with a needle filled block, the needles of which had been soaking in different allergens. =D I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

It's always mesmerizing to me seeing evidence of the body's complex workings. I had surgery on my hand just before moving to California, and though I asked, the doctor wouldn't let me watch. Upon giving blood at a drive on campus I frightened an attendant who saw me watching the blood flow from my arm to fill the small bag. (No, I don't have any particular fetishes with blood, it was just fascinating.) So I watched and tried not to grin as the nurse stuck me with 64 - 80 small needles and then watched some more as my body reacted and several small welts appeared on the soft underside of my arm. (I took a picture, but I'll have to put it up later.)

This morning I returned to my regularly scheduled programming. In a way I feel like I'm waiting for that next chance to break away, to experience something, anything different. For now I'll content myself with the everyday and perhaps for a while be more aware of how it's not quite "everyday".

Friday Cat Blogging - Queen of hearts

My brother's cat. If you look at her belly you can see the heart drawn in lighter grey fur. She's a sweet and social cat, get's along famously with my neice who is 18mos. Quite the opposite of the tiger I was going to put up. Don't have photoshop on the new computer though and I was running out of Friday. So, enjoy Sassy, Queen of hearts. I'll let her know you said 'hey'.

Wish List: Memory Implants...

Twice this week (possibly more that I don't remember) I walked into my room to do something and promptly forgot to do it. I'm good at this game. Well, I guess it depends on how you define the goals of the game.

My car is still not fixed. Looks like I'll be figuring out the whole junkyard parts thing this week. With any luck it will be fixed before I go back to Omaha. With business hours being what they usually are though it may take longer than that. Ugh.

The Super Bowl was fun, though I think I was more interested in the game than 75% of the people at the house. *sighs* Sometimes it's hard not to see the differences between the bay area and central MO. It was good to have a group at the house though and I got to spend some time with Monika before the game. It was one of those California days and the air and the sun felt great.

Oh, and just when I thought I'd decided to let my hair grow out again, my evil friends have me leaning towards cutting it short...
